Overcoming personal challenges and tragedy, David Mahler has transformed his life experiences into a beacon of hope for those struggling with substance use disorder. Raised in Brooklyn without a father figure, he succumbed to the lure of drugs early on, despite maintaining a semblance of normalcy through school and work. His career as a foreign currency broker was marred by the traumatic events of 1993 and 9/11 at the World Trade Center, leading to the impactful name of his practice, "Ground Zero".

It was the battle with substance abuse in his own family, particularly his daughter Dana's struggles, that propelled him into the realm of recovery coaching. After years of supporting Dana through numerous rehabs and embracing his own healing within community groups, he became a certified addiction recovery coach, fueled by his faith and the painful loss of Dana to fentanyl poisoning.

David will share with us ways to spot and help those in need of recovery support for their substance abuse.

They will briefly speak to us (before our main program) about their upcoming Masquerade Ball that includes honoring our own Rotary member Jeff Friedman.

Gerry is the President of Creative Solutions Unlimited, a professional training and management/marketing consulting organization. Formerly he was the Vice President and General Manager for Hugin Sweda, a supplier of retail systems. He has also served as Associate Professor at the College of Business, Fairleigh Dickinson University, College of St. Elizabeth, and Caldwell/West Caldwell Continuing Education Center. He has authored Dare to Be Great, and his new book Life Skills to Master Your Destiny comes out next month. 

Hear motivational speaker Gerry Tchir speak about how to live a moral and satisfying life based on fundamental priorities. Gerry will help us get clear on what you truly value - so your choices line up with what matters to you. He'll help learn how to make decisions with confidence, even when the path isn't obvious. 

Help us make plans for service, social, and membership activities. 

The presentation will include information on benefits, programs, resources and services for eligible Monmouth County older adults (ages 60 and up), adults living with disabilities (ages 18-59), veterans and their dependents (including surviving spouses of deceased veterans) and caregivers. Topics will include nutrition assistance, medical transportation, home and respite care, Medicare counseling and more.
